High Plains Raceway - 2010/07/29 08:52 I made a major road trip to High Plains Raceway in eastern Colorado last week to go to an event with the US Audi Club. I try to get to at least one new track every year, and stuff I had read on the HPR website sounded like the track was fast and technical. It was 1100 miles to get out there, and I think it was worth the trip.

HPR is 2.5 miles with 17 turns. The top speed that I hit with the Camaro on the backstretch was 120 mph. The first 5 turns are flat, but turns 6-15 are built on hills that give elevation change of ~70 feet. Many of the turns are blind entry, and I would say that the track overall is most like Mid-Ohio.

Re:High Plains Raceway - 2010/07/29 09:22 I drove the track for three days, starting with an open lapping day on friday. The driver's meeting for the Lapping Day could be summed up by saying "There's the track, don't hit each other." They described open passing rules anywhere on the track, with the passing car car going off line to make the pass. When we actually got on track, however, some of the slow cars were going off line and giving point-by's. Others weren't. I made some passes by going between slower cars.

Everybody seemed to be from Denver, and there were quite a few cool cars. 5 Nissan GTR's, a Corvette ZR1, a C6 Z06, and a Ferrari 430 Scuderia. There was also an old Audi 5000 Quattro, with an LT1 Chevy in it. That car was a hoot.

Re:High Plains Raceway - 2010/07/29 12:30 The guy with the Audi 5000 is supposed to e-mail me pictures, which I will post. I forgot to take my own camera.
